ZZzz….

I get so sleepy at my job and it’s not even boring! Today I accidentally fell asleep  for 2 minutes. Not a good look ladies and gentlemen. I’ve been ODing on coffee lately and I know it’s not good for me. I would really love to sleep for 8 hours a night, but it’s just not possible right now. Unfortunately, I don’t think that will be possible until retirement. Anyway, so in my attempt to be a good worker I looked up some info on how to stay awake during work( because let me tell you that multi-vitamin I’ve been taking is not working), and I came across a pretty interesting list sans coffee as an option!

  • Do a few angled push-ups using your desk.
  • Jump up! It’s a simple way to pump yourself up. (I recommend this one!)
  • Prefer chatting face to face, do not send mails or use phone when you can easily walk up to your co-workers/ subordinates. (i started getting lazy, so I started sending emails…)
  • Ensure that your sitting posture is correct. Do you know that poor posture alone can hinder blood and oxygen delivery to the brain decreasing it by 30%? (No, I did not know that, thanks!)
  • Do breathing exercises. Learn how to breathe properly through out the day. It is important for the oxygen supply through out your body.
  • exercise

All of these and more can be found on EZarticles . I did a little modifying and started skipping around the office. Swear it works.

Maybe in a few years…

As I was walking to the train station after work yesterday, I spotted a lady handing out fliers. I never take fliers, but this one was different because it had a bracelet attached to it! Soooo I decided to take one and check it out.  I take a look at the flier and I swear that my jaw must have dropped or something because I was super surprised.  It was a flier advertising a company called Betty Beauty, which sells  PUBIC HAIR DYE. I was like whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? They had all sorts of colors to match your head hair and some just for fun. I understand women wanting to cover up their white hairs, or maybe matching their head and their pubes, but PINK and GREEN? If I saw someone with green pubes I would be like something isn’t right!  When my boys picked me up from the station, I shared my new found info with them. They couldn’t believe it either…. PINK? haha.  They were in particular concerned on how women dyeing their pubes would  affect them….. seems toxic.  I’m sure you know where that thought is going so I’ll stop there.

On the other side of flier were Charmcils, which were stencils for the pubes. So if one wanted a star shape or a bow tie or anything like that, one could also buy that off the Betty website and use any wax to make one’s dream possible! I’ve heard a lot about different shaped pubes and I have to say that it’s pretty dope. My boy told me that if he saw something like that he would probably be impressed. So there you go ladies. If you ever really wanted a lightening bolt design down there, Betty’s Beauty got it for your Betty.  Betty’s dye is $20 and charmcils are $10 for a box of 8.

yay! My Betty and my hair match now!

yay! My Betty and my hair match now!

Barack Obama: Urban Style

Barack Obama’s face is really showing up on a lot of urban clothing (maybe a little too much).  I’ve seen his face on a lot of fly T-shirts and hoodies. However, I was not fully prepared to see what I saw on highsnobiety last night. These kicks below are by artist Virtual Mo who created two pairs of what are called the Mobama Dunks. They’re pretty hot. Hopefully more than two pairs get released (maybe without his face?).  Any suggestions on what we could put McCain’s face on?

I would think that maybe creative, liberal people/designers/artists would look at some Third Party candidates for some inspiration or representation. Just a thought.

These are pretty dope

These are pretty dope

Webinar

The word webinar really gets me. I don’t know why. Everytime they tell us we have a webinar coming up or to check out the webinar, I laugh to myself a bit.

Mahmoud Darwish

As most of you know, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is one of my least favorite subjects to talk about, probably because I feel so extremely passionate about it. Although I may have thought differently a few years ago, I am fully in support of the idea of cohabitation because I think it is the only way to peace.

I bring this up because Mahmoud Darwish, a famous Palestinian poet, died Saturday August 9th at the age of 67 after having heart surgery. His poems fully embodied the Palestinian cause. They were written passionately and beautifully. Most of his poems talk of exile, war and the struggle towards a national home. Darwish was strong and courageous. He will live on in many hearts. To read more about Mahmoud Darwish click on his name.

Here is one of his poems translated by Carolyn Forche and Munir Akash. It and others can be found at Mahmoud Dawish’s poems.

I BELONG THERE

I belong there. I have many memories. I was born as everyone is born.

I have a mother, a house with many windows, brothers, friends, and a prison cell

with a chilly window! I have a wave snatched by seagulls, a panorama of my own.

I have a saturated meadow. In the deep horizon of my word, I have a moon,

a bird's sustenance, and an immortal olive tree.

I have lived on the land long before swords turned man into prey.

I belong there. When heaven mourns for her mother, I return heaven to

   her mother.

And I cry so that a returning cloud might carry my tears.

To break the rules, I have learned all the words needed for a trial by blood.

I have learned and dismantled all the words in order to draw from them a

   single word: Home.

I love…

I feel like everyone has an I love New York shirt or an I love something shirt in their closet. I’ve seen a lot of hipsters with  “go love your own city” shirts on (as if they didn’t come somewhere from middle america), but my favorite of all  has to be the “I love DR” shirt (except for my I love Dubai shirt). I think it’s hilarious that Dominicans think that they don’t show their pride enough. I’ve been seeing these shirts really hardcore these last few months around the tri-state area. This just in : Dominican Dogs want to show their pride now too!

Good Morning America.. and Other countries

I swear people at work have to think I’m retarded because I forget everything and it takes me like 15 years to do a report because half the time I forget which folder has which template blah blah blah. I feel like my co-workers are going to start to shun me.  Hopefully I’ll get the hang of it.. and one day everyone will look back and say remember when we thought that girl was semi-retarded but still looked fly as hell so we kept her on the team… no no it’s not that bad but still, i can’t wait until it’s all second nature… damn excel and its million (hidden) buttons SARAH!

Anyway, I work right next to Bryant park and I was walking home last night and there were people with sleeping bags waiting on line. A lot of them were really young girls. So i thought about why they would be there for a second, but then I saw an icecream truck and I forgot all about the bryant park thing. So when I was walking to work today I noticed that there were more police officers than usual around. And then I pass by bryant park again and remembered those teeny bopper girls who were on line, but now they were in the park- a million of them screaming courtsey of Good Morning America presenting the Jonas Brothers today (shout out to Sarah because she loves the Jonas Brothers more than life itself .. I’m sure she was there, but was too ashamed of herself to let me know where she was..be proud Sarah). Anyway, the Jonas brothers are a group of three brothers that are  teenagers, well one of them is 20. They have a huge fanbase. I had never heard any of their music so I stopped and listened as I walked by and I have to say that they are anything but dope. They are the anti-dope. But, hey thats just my opinion. Rock on JBros.. do it for Sarah. haha.

Japan is where it’s at!

So my very close friend Karen is Japan teaching english for the year and although I am saddened by her absence, she’s been keeping me informed of all her doings, and I’m learning more and more about Japan. This past weekend she attended the Ueda Joint Festival which apparently took place in a castle! shit. I’ve always wanted to live in a castle…. anyway.. She explained it like this :

“There were three main stages, located throughout the castle grounds, with DJs, bands, live graffiti artists, and lotsandlots of dancing. It was a three-day weekend festival so some had set up full-on tents/teepees complete with grills, tables and hammocks. Besides being clean and responsible for their own trash/waste, the Japanese are apparently also very honest and respectful of other people’s property. According to some of the locals/other JETs who’ve lived in Japan for a while, you can leave your stuff unattended, including purse, camera, cell phone, wallet lying out with money, diamonds, pearls, newborn child, etc., come back and expect to have everything exactly as you left it.” (http://fishbucket.wordpress.com/)

sounds like a fabulous place. Can’t wait for Tokyo 2009 New Years bash!

i really like this one.

i really like this one.

Karen posted some awesome pictures of the festivals, but I was mostly fascinated with the unbelievable graffiti and art.

OoOo

So paper-doll.com did a spotlight on Parisian designer Matthieu Missiaen who has a line of shoes called NDEUR. These shoes are really dope and I’m thinking about getting myself a pair of these. They are really urban and Hot. I feel like I wouldn’t wear them though, just put them on a shelf and stare at them every once and a while. To get a better look and order a pair yourself go to http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5361137. He does some really awesome kicks too.

Getting Ready For the Weekend!

I love electronic music so I was really excited when my GIRL kimmy kim kim(is that better?) told me the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival is this saturday at The YARD. Yeeeyeah. I like the YARD. it’s a great outdoor space and it’s right next to my old apt in Brooklyn on union st. I get all nostalgic when I’m around there. Aww the good old days. Those people still have the same blue blinds we had like 11 years ago! And now there is this good ass mexican place on the corner. I’ve had my share of tequila there while watching the Eurocup! I love tequila. It’s in my blood I swear. Did I ever tell you guys that at my brother’s wedding reception, all they had was tequila… and everyone was happy… especially after the tequila. Anyway, all day dance party baby. Its only 15 bucks at the door but you can save five bucks if you preorder tickets! Check the flier for details.
